Chapter two

"Come on Brad, snap out of it. Help me with Justin." Brad did not answer. He could not answer - his head tingled as his quickening breaths feed too much oxygen into his system. His muscles ached, primed for instant action but the breaks where still on. The Seekers dropped from the hole that had opened in the air a metre off the ground. Their massive worm-like bodies flayed about in uncoordinated confusion. Henry heaved Justin over his shoulder and gave Brad a shove.
"Brad, I can't carry you as well." Alerted to the movement the Seekers shot toward them. Brad and Henry stumbled backward but the Seekers where too quick. Justin was ripped from Henry's grip.
"NO!" he shouted, grabbing Justin's legs. The top half of Justin was already inside the Seeker's mouth. Henry put all his effort into dragging Justin back. The macabre tug-of-war seemed to last an aeon.
"Brad. Help me," Henry cried. His muscles burned with pain. He felt Justin's legs slipping from his sweaty hands. He glanced in Brad's direction just in time to see him eaten by a Seeker. In that horrifying moment Justin was lost and a third Seeker thudded into Henry and swallowed him.

Inside the Seeker, bridge enzymes covered Brad's body and soaked into his skin forming a link between his mind and the Seeker's. The Seeker blundered through Brad's brain searching for the chrysalis; disjointed memories surfaced in rapid succession causing a cacophony of sounds, smells, tastes and emotions to blast through Brad's body. Unable to find any reference to the chrysalis the Seeker spat Brad out and left him trapped in a gelatinous envelope. The Seeker that had swallowed Henry gave up the search as well, leaving Henry's body on the grass next to Brad. The third Seeker that had eaten Justin screeched its dismay at the wilderness of Justin's mind. Only a faint suggestion of decaying memories remained of a being long dead. No salvageable information, no clue to the location of the chrysalis. The Seeker spat Justin's body out and left it for the Tormentors to feast on. They would arrive soon, lured by the sweet scent released by the bridge enzymes breaking down. A hole opened in the air and the Seekers slithered away to report to their master.

Two points of blue light flared in the darkness of Justin's mind and a voice filled his head, "Justin, it is time to emerge from the Erebus." The shroud of deception slid back and he awoke unharmed. "Justin you must get up," the voice said. Justin opened his eyes - the full glory of the sun poured into his soul and he struggled with the sticky film covering his body. He sat up and stared at the lake, it reminded him of something. The lake reflected the light blue of the clear sky. It was the same blue as the two points of light that had brought him around. The same light blue of his Dad's eyes. The same light blue eyes belonging to the hooded figure. Tormentors stepped into existence on the far side of the lake. Their blood red eyes fixed on Justin as they sprinted around the lake. "Use the Sands of Cronus, you must find the Keeper of the stone," the voice told Justin.
